Selecting a Web Publishing Vendor

Posted by admin on July 26th, 2010 — Posted in House Of Software, Lots Of Web Resources, Publishing Resources

Low grade digital software packages will spoil any imaginative electronic magazine. When you’ve chosen to make an online publication the most important next call is to select the software supplier. It’s not a trite question of merely picking some neat format for your creation - indeed this decision is serious as it may mean the difference between success of failure for your entire venture. Ease of use is the key feature to look for. The software package could be the most impressive you’ve seen - but without being able to use it, it’s worth nothing to you. The e-brochure you’re making should matter enough to you that you try out different providers.

Because hacking and spamming are issues online, security measures should be another concern as you’re making an online edition. Is your agreement protected? What about the content? Is it possible for people to simply copy and paste the newspaper content or has the flash software supplier prevented these things? Is your content secured by the e-publishing software vendor from copying and pasting by readers? The commercialization plan needs to be thought about to properly market your digital magazine. How have you worked in social media with it? Where does ad-handling fit into this plan? Not that each issue has to take all this into account but your overall plan definitely should. Contemporary techniques mean considering search engine essentials as you edit content.

What about mixing free and paid content? How about offering single copy and multiple options for subscription? Will your content be commercialized ? Will you be providing teasers and summaries to market your ebrochure? What’s the availability of the e-brochure? If it’ll be private you should be able to investigate all your hosting possibilities or will it be public? If public you should probably host directly with your supplier. Have you examined how to deal with back-issues?

Technical support is a big consideration in your selection of host. Are you able to email anyone with questions? Be certain of their response time! Examine whatever FAQ sections they have. These things might seem unimportant now, but should there be an emergency, you’ll be relieved you thought about this beforehand. Once you’ve decided to create an online publication such as an electronic newspaper, making the right choice of online brochure software hosting service may decide the whole accomplishment of your magazine. Choose carefully, and you’ll be a great success.

For an organisation’s manager, short format video commercials are a useful source that can effortlessly capture your customers’ attention & significantly raise the amount of users to your website. Internet videos are enormously successful in getting the target customers’ comparatively short attention span. What’s more, if codes are incorporated and online video sharing is supported, short format professional videos can be an outstanding way to get one-way incoming links and thereby positively affect your sites rankings on the search engines.

Indeed, online video clips have turned out to be an excellent media for business or self-endorsement. The following are some tips to distributing your own online videos.

Firstly, you can post your short format professional videos on your own web site; although this would need you to make your own video hosting arrangements. Instead, ask your Internet hosting solutions provider if video downloading or video streaming services are supported.

Video downloading is where your company users have to download your Web video to their laptops hard disk. They need to store the short format promotional video to their own PC before they can play it using their computer’s video player or a downloadable video player device. There are several video downloading service merchants that cost not much. There’s also a progressive downloading mechanism where your visitors can play the short format professional videos at the same time as downloading them.

Whereas video streaming on the other hand absolutely does away with the demand to download the Internet video clips & permits immediate playback so it gives the most convenience to your visitors. Of course, getting a video hosting supplier that supports video streaming can cost you a pretty penny. If you are looking for a company that specialises in corporate video production in London then look no further than Vidify.

And finally, the more popular way to distribute Web video clips is by posting your sites to video distribution websites which possess their own video hosting platform. These sites cost you nothing to join and will even sometimes give you money post video clips. What’s more, also have a big audience base and grasp; for example, YouTube obtains about eleven million Web visits each month.

Explode Your Writing Production: Use a System to Write 1000 Articles by this Time Next Year

Posted by admin on June 12th, 2008 — Posted in Publishing Resources

So how can you really write two, three or more articles per day? Ten to fifteen articles per week or up to 100 or more articles per month? Total a whopping seven hundred to 1000 articles per year without breaking a sweat?

Simple.

You use a system.

First you’ll identify your areas of specialization. Note that I used the plural. Everyone is an expert or near expert in multiple areas. Even if you’ve lived alone in a cave for the past several years, you’re an expert. You’d know about living alone in a cave. You’d be an authority on plants, animals, and insects that found cave life suitable. You could speak volumes on what to eat, drink and how to occupy yourself while living in a cave, etc. You get the picture, right?

Next, you’ll assemble your reference materials, resources and writing aids, those things that are going to help you to flesh out and deepen your article outlines. You’ll quickly be able to ascertain key facts, background information, select and apply poignant quotes and strong statistical data into your writing. Your writing must provide useful information.

People go online for three essential purposes:

• To get information

• To check their e-mail or chat online

• To make a purchase

Yes, there are other things you can do online, but these are the big three for most people. Think about it. Remember, you must provide useful information. This includes news, commentary and entertainment to a degree.

Third, you’ll be you’ll introduce the use of article templates; what they are and how to use them to produce smoothly transitioning, logical articles that are keyword-rich and packed with useful information for your reader. The keywords bring them to your article through the topic and SEO, or search engine optimization. The article title whets their interest and gets them to open your article. The first paragraph gets them hooked so they continue reading. The information-rich body of your piece keeps them reading. Your summary and SIG, or author resource box help you to bring the reader back for more and firmly establish your expertise.

Article templates allow you to almost effortlessly format and produce:

• Travel / destination articles

• Personal, political and other forms of essays

• Specialized topic articles

• “list” articles

Many other types of articles can also be produced using templates to save time and effort. Yes, you’ll still have to work for a living, but your productivity will grow faster than a jar of Kompucha in sugar-rich tea on a hot summer day in the shade. Zowee.

You should set writing production goals for yourself. As you develop and apply your article production system, your output will soon reach an article a day. Then you’ll start to research and write several articles per week up to multiple articles per day. When I’m on a roll, I can pump out five or six articles per day. It’s really not that difficult once you get the hang of a good system that works for you.

In additional promotional steps, you would expand and develop your online presence; not only by publishing but by also employing some additional online aids allow your readers (and potential customers) to contact you easily. You’d continually expand your readership reaching farther and deeper into the web to never-before-heard-of sources. You’ll build an opt-in mail list of highly targeted potential customers. You’d continue to build and deepen your knowledge of online publishing and marketing.

Finally, you’ll continually refine your article production system to crank out articles and useful materials faster and more regularly, shooting your content numbers, potential clients and reputation through the roof. A thousand articles per year? Huh, that’s nothing once you really get going.

Article Submitters - Are They Worth It?

Posted by admin on May 6th, 2008 — Posted in Publishing Resources

There are both advantages and disadvantages to using article submitters.

Advantages:

- You can submit one article to hundreds or thousands of article directories with just one submission depending on what article submitter you are using. Submitting an article to this many directories, by hand, will take you a long time.

- With the extra time saved using an article submitter, you can develop your website and or write more articles.

Disadvantages:

- With article submitters, selecting the right category can be difficult, because not all article directories have the same categories. This can be a problem, because some directories will delete your article if it isn’t submitted to the correct category.

- Another problem with article submitters is that some will not allow you to place hyperlinks in the article body. This is inconvenient, because not all article directories disallow hyperlinks within the article body and these links are often useful to the readers of the article.

I personally do not use an article submitter. I submit my web hosting articles and other articles by hand. The only reasons are as follows: I have not found one that can select the correct category every time for every directory and I like to place hyperlinks within the article body when allowed.

Prose: an Overview Analysis of Exposition

Posted by admin on April 19th, 2008 — Posted in Publishing Resources

Prose needs to be defined first of all. According to most dictionaries and literature resources, prose is the ordinary form of written language which is not poetry, drama, or song. Prose is one of the major genres of literature that occurs in two forms: fiction and non-fiction. Prose expresses thought through language recorded in sentences and paragraphs.

Note that prose includes fiction (short stories, novels) and non-fiction (articles, essays, journals, biographies, autobiographies, memoirs). It does not include poetry, drama, or lyrics, which are genres in themselves. Non-fiction prose can be divided into three kinds: narration, description, and exposition.

Most scholastic reading and writing is expository, explaining. In general such writing answers the questions how and why. Many news articles are also expository. Essays are often expository as are business letters, doctors’ case studies, lawyers’ briefs, engineers’ reports, and text books.

Therefore, how do we know what is exposition and what is not? If the result of the writing is to tell a story, to tell what happened, then the writing is considered narrative, arranged in time. The need to re-create something in words becomes description, arranged in space.

Writers organize exposition by logic, appealing to the reader’s reason by using evidence and logic, even if also appealing to the reader’s emotion. Exposition explains the nature of an item, idea, or a theme using (singularly or in combination) identification, definition, classification, illustration, comparison and contrast, and/or analysis.

As with all types of writing, exposition must be organized and well supported. One writer may organize from the most important point to the least important (as found in articles for newspapers and magazines). Another may organize from the least important to the most important (found often in speeches). One organizational method is to place points in order of occurrence (such as directions). Another organizational process could be pro and con.

An expository writing should be logical and supported with examples, facts, statistics, and/or illustrations. Each point has to be shown to be reasonable and understandable. Even if emotional aspects are included, the emotion should be based on supported ideas.

Ways of organizing and supporting points in an exposition are covered in others articles since each is a topic of its own. The main idea, first and foremost, is to know what prose is and isn’t and that exposition has to be organized and supported.

Quality Articles in 25 Minutes

Posted by admin on March 28th, 2008 — Posted in Publishing Resources

If you are tired of staring at a blank screen or spending hours trying to churn out a quality article, this will show you a simple method that only takes 2 minutes at a time. You will use a step-by-step process around a metaphor based structure that helps you focus and brainstorm. Starting is as easy as writing down a pre-defined article structure - leaving room for notes. You then proceed to work section by section starting with the easiest. After a round of polishing you can end up with a good article within 25 minutes.

Writing has always been difficult for me. Tons of ideas are running through my head and it is nearly impossible to get them down on paper so they make sense to anyone else. I tried various methods and tools with little effectiveness. It then came to me one day while learning a game that board game instructions are some of the most concise and effective examples of getting information across - and they all follow a similar pattern: Summary, Background, Getting Started, Turn of Events, and Completion. Using this structure in writing will focus brainstorming on specific tasks and provide a complete document that can quickly be formatted and polished into a quality article.

Start by writing down the 5 basic sections on paper or computer with enough space to jot down notes.

  • Summary section - a high level overview of the whole article.
  • Background section - provides an introduction to the rest of the article.
  • Getting Started section - define anything the reader may need to know up front before you get into the core part of your article.
  • Turn of Events section - the core part of your article. If it is a how-to article it is the steps to take. If it is another type of article the section is where you write out the points of interest or information you were wanting to convey to the reader.
  • Completion section - where you make any final conclusion, remarks, additional sources of information, and so on.

Once the sections are written down, start with the section that is easiest for you and write down in bullet points all the ideas you want to talk about in that section. Probably the Turn of Events section will be the easiest to start with because this is the core of the article and the part you already have some ideas about. Only spend 2 minutes on a section and then move on to another one. Don’t worry if you don’t feel you have everything you need down, you can add to it when you start to format your article.

When all of the sections are filled out go back and format each section into one or more paragraphs. Each bullet point can easily be a sentence. Start writing the paragraph from scratch while looking at the bullet points for reference and don’t worry about facts at this point. When you have a place you are writing down a fact, put in a place holder and then make a note someplace that you need to go back and look up the fact to make it correct. This will allow you to keep up the flow of writing without interruption and still allow you to write accurate information. Try to keep around 2 minutes for each section although for a large article it could take you more.

You should now have a fairly decent looking article. Spend around 5 minutes polishing the article. Read it through start to finish several times. Remove any words that are not needed and try to shorten any sentence that is too wordy. Make sure your sentences don’t all start with the same word, letter, or type of word. Introduce some variety by starting some sentences with prepositions and verbs. Lastly write in an active voice - have the reader doing the action and not reading about someone else doing the action.

During the polishing pass you should look up any facts you made a note about and make some notes about any additional sections you may want to add or any additional articles you could write as an offshoot of this article.

You should now have a good, well thought out article in about 25 minutes. If you made any additional notes in the polishing stage, you should go back now and add in the additional thoughts. This same method can be used for larger and smaller projects. You can divide chapters in a book into the same basic 5 sections. You can also divide a paragraph into the same basic sections with each sentence corresponding to one of the sections. The very first paragraph in this article is done that way.

Public Speaking: Bribes

Posted by admin on March 19th, 2008 — Posted in Publishing Resources

… or, as I like to call them, ‘Tips in advance’ are a part of my public speaking life. Does that mean I am an unethical person? ABSOLUTELY NOT! It means I am a realist. It means that when I am 30 minutes from the beginning of a presentation and I have been trying to get a projection screen for two hours, it might be time to grease a few palms. I just consider it an investment in my image. I am the one who is going to look bad if I am not prepared to begin on time. If it costs me five or ten or even twenty bucks to get some action, so what? I don’t believe in penny pinching when you get in a pinch.

Am I happy about this? No, I am not happy, but I am always willing to invest in excellence. Also, I would rather lose a few bucks than get all worked up and upset before a public speaking engagement. In addition, any problems I am having are probably not the fault of the maintenance or set up person who gets the money. It makes me feel good to give them a little boost in their pay for that day.

So, have a few small bills handy before every presentation, just in case you need to get something done quick. One more thing … This also works when you have too much baggage at the curb side check in. An extra bag costs 50 bucks at the airline ticket counter, so I give the skycap 20 and save myself 30. It doesn’t work every time, but most of the time it does.
