Data Leak Was Known in 2008 to T-Mobile and ICO

Posted by admin on January 1st, 2010 — Posted in Lots Of Telecommunication Resources, Market Patrons, World Of Technology

Both T-Mobile and the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) are under fire from protestors after it was revealed that they both had knowledge of the data leak of customers back in 2008 itself. Protestors are raising their voices against the lack of action by the two bodies to protect customers during this yearlong interim period.

A member of T-Mobile staff was found guilty of leaking sensitive information to third party agents, according to news that was made public about a month ago. Customer data, like contract expiry dates, was being sold to outside parties who, in turn, sold them to competing companies in the industry. When customer contracts approached end dates, competitors would use this data to approach customers with their own services and thus poach them.

Following the emergence of this breach of privacy, which was called the biggest such breach, T-mobile customers and others raised a huge protest and demanded severe punishment for the offenders.

A recent enquiry made to the ICO under the Freedom of Information Act revealed that T-mobile had made its first report of suspected leak back in December 2008. This means that both the provider and the ICO have known about the breach for about a year now with no concrete steps being taken in this regard. This has led to yet another fresh wave of protests against the two bodies, as this means that customer privacy continued to be compromised during the period.

Swedish Providers Agree to Market Real-World Mobile Broadband Speeds

Posted by admin on June 3rd, 2009 — Posted in Lots Of Telecommunication Resources, Market Patrons, World Of Technology

Mobile broadband headline speeds: just one of the things, which can cause disappointment and frustration for mobile broadband users. The practice of promoting ‘headline’ or maximum theoretical speeds when selling mobile broadband just about scrapes in on the right side of false advertising, but is considered by many to be unfair and misleading.

The common use of the phrase ‘up to’ in conjunction with a decent looking Mb speed is technically accurate, but while the network may be theoretically capable of that speed, most users will never experience anything close.

Now in Sweden, a country which somewhat makes the running in terms of mobile broadband, operators have agreed to take a more honest approach. Sweden’s four main mobile network operators TeliaSonera, Tele2, Telenor and 3 have agreed on guidelines for advertising download speeds of their mobile broadband services, which allow customers to see the practical maximum speed - i.e. the real-world speed - of the network, rather than the theoretical maximum.

The new guidelines, which are to be adopted no later than 1 September this year, agree set speeds for each technology and implementation - so for example what we see marketed as 3.6Mb gives an agreed real-world speed of 3Mbps, where we see 7.2Mb the agreed real-world speed is 6Mb, and the next leap, 14.4Mb will really only offer 10Mb.

It is a great leap forward for honest, realistic marketing of mobile broadband, which focuses on managing expectations rather than trying to attract custom with unrealistic headline speeds; and we hope the UK industry follows suit. BT Launches Simplified Wi-Fi Hotspot Package for Businesses

Posted by admin on February 16th, 2009 — Posted in Lots Of Telecommunication Resources, Market Patrons, World Of Technology

Wi-Fi hotspots are becoming increasingly popular in the UK and are seen as a great tool for businesses to provide more value to their customers, and at the same time increase revenue by bringing in more customers and making them stay longer and be more productive.

The new BT broadband hub package helps businesses let the customers connect to their broadband service free or through BT Openzone vouchers. Until now, the process of getting a wireless internet service installed for public access was quite complex but the new package promises to simplify the process to a great extent.

These hotspots will not only get in new customers, thus being a great marketing tool for many small businesses such as dentists and restaurants, but will also improve the overall customer experience and satisfaction. The free access to customers’ will never be given priority over business traffic; hence, businesses will not face any broadband speed reduction due to the new service and can continue to go about their work as always. Existing BT business customers can avail this new feature by upgrading the firmware of their BT broadband hub.

The package is likely to increase the number of businesses opting to establish a public Wi-Fi hotspot. It is a positive development for both the businesses and their customers in these worrying times.

Self Healing Minefields - Grid, GPS, Satellite Strategies

Posted by admin on March 19th, 2008 — Posted in Lots Of Telecommunication Resources

I propose a “Manta Ray” Style self-burying landmine grid system, which uses swarm and haptic robotic re-organization theory to fill in the holes left from enemy intrusion. A “Manta Ray” mimicking robot, which vibrates can quickly bury itself.

The virtual grid in which the land mines occupy will allow for patterns, which are algorithm controlled by encrypted satellite command relay. The shape of the land mines will be a small lobster like body with large circular or octagonal mesh wired component. The body will dig a hole for itself and then the mesh grid will lower itself to the surface and then jiggle until it is covered. (have drawings). Since we know the latest exact locations of the minefield a blue force army, downed pilot or special force teams could transverse the minefield using a PDA-GPS device carefully dodging all the land mines. Any attempt to follow them would be sure death for those who pursue. Think the story of the “Parting of the Red Sea!” I further propose the Blue Force software guidance system around the self-healing minefield grid be called PRS.

The land mines will deactivate by satellite, before re-configuring and then once properly buried in place be reactivated. After the war they can be deactivated or discharged, to prevent the countless thousands killed and maimed each year from land mines of wars gone bye.
