New Trucks in New York, New York
So you live in New York City and you are in the market for a new truck. Where do you begin your search?
Traditional Sources
Once upon a time your only resources were the newspapers and the yellow pages of the telephone book. The Sunday editions of all major New York newspapers contained pullout sections devoted strictly to car and truck sales, and they still do. There were also publications like “AutoTrader” that featured ads for new and used vehicles in the New York area. But today there is the Internet.
Searching the Net
Enter “New Truck Dealerships in New York, New York” into your favorite search engine. The results you get will include “noise” but look for sites with phrases like “local business results”. These will probably include sites like citysearch, superpages, yellowpages, magicyellow or local yahoo. Here you will find listings of truck dealers in the New York area where you can be redirected to the dealer’s websites to see what they have to offer. But you will also find something you won’t get in the newspapers: actual customer reviews. There is generally a lot of good information in those reviews. Taken together they can give you a pretty good picture of the quality of the dealership. Dealerships with only one or two reviews may not be helpful enough but those with more reviews will give you a much better view of the dealership. But remember, when reading customer reviews posted anywhere on the Internet, there are a lot of people out there who just can’t be satisfied! But if ten out of ten reviews complain about some aspects of the dealership, you’ll probably want to stay away from that dealer. On the other hand, ten out of ten glowing reviews is no guarantee that you will have the same experience, but it’s a good start.
Another Internet source available today is Ebay Motors, and similar sites like carfinders and carmaxx. What began as a marketplace for used vehicles has now turned into a major source of new vehicle purchases as well. Putting your zip code into the search engines on these sites will produce listings of vehicles in the New York area first, ranked by distance from the zip code. As an added benefit, these sites can be very helpful in comparing features and benefits of different models and makes of new trucks.
Word of Mouth
When all else fails, there’s always good old fashioned “word of mouth”. Personal referrals from someone who has actually used a product are almost always good sources of information. Let your relatives, friends, neighbors, and coworkers know you’re looking to buy a new truck. Ask them if they or anyone they know have bought a truck in the last five years or so. Talk to the buyers about their experiences with the dealerships where they purchase their trucks.
