Florence and the Machine
Florence and the Machine has revealed that the cover of her debut album Lungs was designed by Orlando Weekes from The Maccabees.
The singer, who records under the name Florence & The Machine, described the unusual outfit as “a lung bra/necklace”.
“He’s a fellow art student and does a lot of craft stuff. So he had the job of sewing these lungs,” she told the Daily Star.
“All the other boys had to leave the room when I put them on, but he got to stick some lungs to my boobs.”
Last month, Lungs was included on the Mercury music prize shortlist. The winner will be announced on September 8.
KASABIAN, FLORENCE & THE MACHINE, LA ROUX, FRIENDLY FIRES and THE HORRORS have all been shortlisted for the coveted gong.
After the announcement Kasabian’s SERGE PIZZORNO and TOM MEIGHAN ordered in the booze to celebrate.
Tom said: “We’ve ordered a crate of champagne so it could go anywhere from here.”
Serge added that if they didn’t land the prize, he’d like Glasvegas to win.
Glasvegas Frontman JAMES ALLAN confessed he’d been drinking since he’d heard the news at 9am.
The Scotsman said: “Is this my first? No. I started four hours ago and plan to carry on for the rest of the day.”
While flame-haired nominee FLORENCE WELCH said she’ll be celebrating by doing a bit of housework instead. “It’s more rock ‘n’ roll to do extensive pottering in your house than to get plastered.”
