Snowboarding Trips for the Environmentally Minded Traveler
Countless keen snowboarders will shortly be searching for their skiing gear and dashing away in search of the heaviest snow conditions. And without doubt the impact of your carbon footprint will be virtually as far down the list of holiday essentials as a xmas cracker after Christmas. Merely last winter, a sluggish snowfall hit the tabloids and holidaymakers were panic struck about the bits of snow melting nearly as soon as they settled.
Ski company Chalet 1802, located at the foot of Monte Bianco in Chamonix in the Alps, is one of the only autonomous businesses to go carbon negative and offer skiers an environmentally friendly option whilst reserving their skiing trip. Chalet 1802 founder Aleiah said: Last year was quite a shock with the warmest winter in fifty five yrs in France. Famous resorts such as Hautacam, Verchaix and Risoul suffered. It was warm and the snow didnt last so a lot of the early snowboarding season in the mountains was uneven. We chose to go carbon neutral to help preserve the ski resort.
Aleiah said: We’re not seeking to prescribe to punters only I feel its crucial to afford the guests the selection without increasing the cost of the stay. If the client book with us and vacations in our skiing chalet they can further off-set their carbon footprint and we absorb the added costs. Naturally we still have a sauna and a hot tub - customers wish for luxury but not at the expense of the environs, so we looked at methods of decreasing the affect of a guest flying over here for a winter holiday.”
Chalet 1802 have also linked up with charity Climate Care, which tackles climate change by providing C02 reductions on behalf of individuals and businesses.
