A Little Lingerie Lingo

Posted by admin on November 30th, 2008 — Posted in Civvies

When shopping for lingerie online, some of the item descriptions can be confusing, especially for those purchasing a gift for that special someone and are not familiar with all the lingerie terms used to described a particular fabric or style. So, let’s cover some of these terms so you can be better informed when choosing your lingerie.

First, some commonly used fabrics you may not recognize. These are charmeuse, chiffon, jacquard, lace and satin. When you see these terms, the material/fabric of the item is being described. Charmeuse is a very satiny, very soft and flowy non stretch fabric. This fabric is typically used for chemises and camisoles, slips, gowns, robes, short sleeping sets, and even blouses.

Chiffon is a fabric of sheer silk or rayon. It is a lightweight material with a slightly rough feel to it. It can be made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibers, but is usually associated with silk or nylon and can be dyed to most any shade you like. Chiffon is very delicate and must be hand washed very gently. Lace is a delicate fabric made of yarn or thread in an open web-like pattern. A Jacquard fabric has a pattern of some kind pressed into the solid background. It can be a flat or a raised pattern. It can be of any type fabric such as a knit or a spandex. Satin is a smooth fabric, as of silk or rayon, woven with a glossy face and a dull back.

Now lets discuss a how they describe an item having some sort of decoration on the fabric - this is called embroidery. So if you see an “embroidered lace babydoll”, you know it’s a lace babydoll with some kind of decoration or enhancement. You may also see the term ‘appliqué’. This is a decoration or ornament made by cutting pieces of one material and applying them to the surface of another.

Men, if you are buying for your beautiful woman and she’s self-conscious about her breasts hanging a little, you need to be familiar with the terms ‘underwire’. Bustiers, bras, and other ‘underwire’ items have wire sewn into the fabric under the breasts to add support. You may also see items with ‘boning’; these are rigid plastic or metal strips sewn in shape wear to give structure, support and body contouring.

There are several other fabrics available which you may be familiar with, such as silk, rayon and of course leather. There are also many other terms which we did not discussed, but the ones we went over will give you a little more familiarity with what’s out there. Happy lingerie shopping!

Basic Facts About The Rottweiler

Posted by admin on November 25th, 2008 — Posted in Uncategorized

Looking for some quick Rottweiler dog facts? Here’s a quick rundown of basics facts about Rottweilers.

Vital Stats:

Colour: Black with distinctive tan markings over cheeks, muzzle, chest and legs as well as over both eyes

Coat: straight, coarse and of medium length. Rottweilers are double coated and tend to “blow out” their undercoats twice a year.

Size: Medium-large, Males range from 95-135 lbs, Females tend to be smaller from 80-110 lbs

Types: American Rottweilers tend to be taller and slimmer through face and body whereas German Rottweilers tend to be shorter, stockier and more muscular.

History:

It is thought that the ancestors of this breed (a mastiff type dog) originated in the Roman Empire and that many of them accompanied the Roman army over the Alps as the loyal protector and drover of cattle that were used as the army’s food source.

According to historians, the next appearance of this mastiff type dog was in the beautiful little town of Rottweil nestled in the southern mountainous region of Germany, where the Roman armies had left them as they continued their travels.

The Rottweiler was used by farmers to pull carts in their daily milk deliveries, as well as to help herd the cattle. Butchers used these dogs to guard their down-stairs shops during times of rest and to carry pouches of money to the banks.

The Rottweiler then grew in popularity with law enforcement agencies and eventually as guard dogs in domestic settings.

Rottweilers today excel in such sports as herding, Schutzhund, carting, agility and flyball. They are also proving to be outstanding therapy dogs and recognized as excellent service dogs for the physically challenged.

The exceptional characteristics and versatility of the Rottweiler has made it the 2nd most popular breed in America for the past two years.

The Rottweiler dog is loyal, intelligent and desires to please. They are often described by owners as ‘characters’, ‘gentle bears’ and display a fun-loving sense of humor. However they are a working dog and as such are happiest when they are busy or working on a task.

Rottweilers can also be aloof and stubborn at times. They are known to be extremely protective of their owners’ possessions and property, which is why they are often used as guard dogs.

If a Rottweiler is not well-socialized and trained properly in obedience, they can become a bully and this can lead to other behavioral problems.

Health Concerns:

Hip and/or Elbow Dysplasia - a malformation of the hip and/or elbow joint which can cause serious problems for the dog and expense for the owner. Both are thought to be hereditary which is why you should ask the breeder about the history of your Rottweiler.

Bloat - stomach swells from gas, fluid or both. It becomes serious when the stomach distends and then flips over, causing torsion. This is caused by over-eating, drinking large amounts of water after eating, and/or vigorous exercise after a meal.

Help prevent bloat by feeding several small meals a day, crating the dog for several hours after eating, and monitoring water intake.

Cancer - becoming more common in Rottweilers, with bone cancer the most common type. Investigate any suspicious lumps, moles, sores or unexplained lameness IMMEDIATELY.

Heart Diseases- most common is the is sub-aortic stenosis which can be mild or result in sudden death.

Where To Find A Rottweiler/Rottweiler Puppy:

1) A Reputable Breeder: A reputable breeder will be happy to answer any questions you have about the Rottweiler line and health. They will NOT push you into buying their dogs, but will probably be more concerned to see if YOU are suitable for THEIR puppies.

They will, if possible, allow you to meet the parents and spend some time with the puppy of your choice before deciding to buy.

2) A Rottweiler Rescue: Most, if not all, Rottweiler rescues screen the rottis that they take in to make sure they are trainable and will adjust well in normal domestic settings.

A Rottweiler rescue is an excellent place to find an older Rottweiler if training a rottweiler puppy is not your preference.

This is also a chance to make a difference in the life of a Rottweiler who has probably been mistreated and abused through no fault of it’s own!

Bow tie - It’s different from the regular neck tie

Posted by admin on November 24th, 2008 — Posted in Civvies

If you are tired off with the same pattern of tying a neck tie each time, you can simply change a little to your routine with the help of bow tie. Bow tie is one of the fashion accessories worn with suits or dinner jackets. It is made up of a ribbon fabric that could be tied around the collar in a symmetrical manner so that the two opposite ends form loops.

There are ready- tied bow ties where a distinctive bow is sewn into shape and the band tied around neck has a clip. Bow ties could be made of silk, polyester or mix of fabrics. Tying a bow tie is also not so difficult that you can’t tie it yourself. After wearing your outfit or formal wear just follow the below mentioned instructions:

1. You should start with the left end that should be 4 cm longer than the right end. Then slip the short end under the long end.

2. Next you need to choose how much loose you want the tie to be. You can take the collar button as the reference point and finish crossing the long end over the short end.

3. Still holding the tie at the button to keep it loose, you need to slip the long end under the short end.

4. Zig-zag the end on your chest whereby one fold is the wide part of the tie.

5. After you finish the zig-zag, fold the long flap over the front of tie.

6. Pinch the front of the tie in half and then swing the long flap to the right.

7. Push the pinched corner through the hole and flatten the right half of the front.

8. Slip a finger into the left bow and even up the three layers on the right half while pulling the left bow through the hole.

9. Grip all the three layers on the right and pull the left bow through the hole.

10. Then you need to flatten the left half of the front and straighten the tie.

11. Next tuck the shirt points between tie’s thin strip and the bow tie.

12. You have completed the entire process and if you want to untie pull the single ends. That’s it.

Slimming Fashion Tips For Plus Size Women

Posted by admin on November 24th, 2008 — Posted in Civvies

We all want to look our best, whether we’re short and slim or tall and heavier. Here are a few tips I’ve collected for plus size women that will help us look our best.

Pants

Choose pants that are long enough for you. If your pants are too short, it visually cuts the length of your legs. The longer your legs look, the slimmer they’ll appear.

Also choose pants that fit you well, not too tight or clingy. Fabrics that are too thin tend to cling to your legs and reveal bumps we’d rather keep out of sight.

Choose pants that are either boot cut, wider legged or flared at the bottom. The boot cut is slimming, while the wider cuts also add a slimming effect by keeping a visual straight line from our hips to our ankles. The worst choice would be a tight, tapered pant leg bottom as this enhances the width of your hips and thighs.

Capri pants are very slimming as well if they’re the right length. Choose a style where the bottom of the pant ends a few inches above your ankles but below the widest part of your calves.

Skirts

Choose skirts that rest just above your knees. A mid-calf skirt cuts the length of your legs and draws eyes to the thickest part of your lower legs.

Again, proper fit is key here. Something too tight will visually enhance and draw attention to bulges that we’d rather not publicize. Also look for skirts that fit below the waistline if you have a thick waist.

Bras

A well fitted bra is a must for every woman. Not only to give support and comfort, but a too tight bra can pop out those back rolls like nobody’s business!

If your cup size is not too large, consider trying a sports bra for a comfier fit that has adequate support. No wires here ladies!

Colors

Choose darker colors for areas you don’t want the eyes to focus on and brighter colors for places you want to accentuate. Darker colors such as black and navy are very slimming and should be in every woman’s closet.

Dressing from head to toe in one color is also very slimming as it makes a person look taller. Matching your pantyhose to the color of your shoes and skirts helps achieve this look.

Patterns

Stay away from large patterns and look for vertical stripes - thin is best. Thin stripes help give the illusion of length. Adding length helps give the illusion of a longer body, which helps you look thinner. Small, delicate prints can also be very flattering.

Fit

If your clothing is too tight, it accentuates and magnifies all flaws. If our clothing is too loose and baggy, we think we’re hiding our size but the opposite actually happens: we magnify our size.

So many tips to keep in mind when shopping for new clothes! But the key points to remember are proper fit and visually lengthening fashions. We have so many options now in plus size fashions that we can find exactly what works best for our body types.

Bargain Hunting for Women’s Plus Size Apparel

Posted by admin on November 23rd, 2008 — Posted in Civvies

If finding women’s plus size apparel is difficult, then finding clothing in large sizes at bargain prices is an even greater challenge. To get the best deals on plus size clothes, consider shopping online, at local stores, and through mail-order catalogs. The following are eight strategies for saving money:

- Look for a sale, clearance, or outlet section on the website of your favorite retailer. Occasionally, you can save up to 80% off original prices this way. If your retailer is owned by a parent company, also check the parent company’s website for a clearance or outlet section.

- Comparison shop for similar items at different websites. If you plan to wear an item only a few times or occasionally, perhaps you can purchase a similar but cheaper item.

- Always use a search engine to look for a coupon code your retailer may have. Many websites actually track these coupon codes along with expiration dates to help shoppers save. When filling out your order form online or in a catalog, look for an entry for “coupon code” or “promo code” and then enter a coupon code that applies. If ordering online, be sure to verify that you have received the discount for entering the coupon code.

- Go to the website of your favorite plus size retailer and sign up to receive e-mail specials. In addition, if the sign-up form offers a print catalog, request the catalog also. By signing up, you will receive notifications through e-mails and catalogs of any specials the retailer may be having. Note that you should sign up only with retailers that really interest you or your mailbox may become crammed with excessive e-mails.

- Buy clothing out-of-season or pre-season. Many retailers will offer steep discounts on out-of-season items.

- Buy machine-washable clothes. The cost of having to dry clean an item will make that item expensive in the long run. If you are not sure whether an item is machine-washable, be sure to ask the retailer before you buy.

- Visit local stores that carry plus size clothing and browse through their clearance racks. Some local retailers try to quickly rid their racks of excessive inventory to make room for the latest fashion.

- Purchase items that coordinate well with what you already have in your wardrobe in terms of styling and color.

Using the above strategies will help you save on plus size clothing. Dressing well should not have to be an expensive endeavor for the full-figured woman.

North Face Jackets Sale

Posted by admin on November 21st, 2008 — Posted in Civvies

In many areas of the world you need a really good jacket not only during the winter, but for all seasons. One of the brands of jackets that have established a great reputation for itself is North Face. North Face jackets simply offer jackets that are not only good looking, but also are functional in any type of weather. When it’s cold you want something that can really protect you from the elements, and North Face jackets can do just that. Unfortunately, because North Face is such a great brand, the jackets can be quite costly. The cost at which one must purchase one of these jackets is definite worth it, but any time you can find a North Face Jackets sale you can save a lot of money!

One of the best places to find a North Face jackets sale is on the Internet. Unbelievably you can hunt down this season’s jackets for up to 60% off the original price! It’s hard to turn down a deal like that, especially when you are used to paying full price for them. While Internet shopping is convenient for many, it also turns many people off because you must also pay for shipping to actually receive the products that you buy online. When you find a great North Face jackets sale shipping and handling charges won’t matter because you will still be saving a good chunk of money. You can shop almost any time of the year with online retailers and find that you can save a lot of money on North Face Jackets. With so many North Face Jacket sales going on, you are sure to find great jackets at a great price for the whole family.

The best time to shop online for a North Face jackets sale is before or after the typical jacket season. What this means is that you are coming either before or after the shopping rush and retailers have too many jackets on hand. When retailers have too many jackets on hand there are willing to mark them down so that they can get them off their racks and onto your back but still make some money. A North Face jackets sale is not usually very hard to find, especially online, so you can actually hunt around for the best price on the Internet!

If you are shopping locally for jackets North Face won’t be hard to find. Your big and small retailers will carry North Face and you’ll find that if you shop early you can save quite a bit of money. In addition, if you are willing to compromise a bit you can shop after everyone else and sort of pick through what is left. Because retailers get so many sizes and so many of the same jacket, chances are that you will still find something you like, but it will be marked down. Waiting just two to three weeks longer than usual to shop for your jackets will allow you to save a bundle of money.

When you are shopping for jackets North Face is definitely one of the best brands to stick with. A lot of the time there will be a surplus of North Face jackets because other people don’t want to pay that much for a jacket! This is why you can generally wait a bit longer and wait for the retailer to mark the jackets down before buying, because there will be plenty left to choose from. If only those other shoppers knew what they were missing when they pass over a North Face jackets sale!

Mother Daughter Matching Clothes - The New Style

Posted by admin on November 20th, 2008 — Posted in Civvies

What a great way it is to bond for a mother and a daughter through matching clothes. Matching clothes can be a lot of fun whether you dot it during birthday parties, costume parties, formal gatherings, special occasions like Christmas and wedding, or even during casual occasions. The “connection” between mother and daughter matching clothes may seem superficial, but there’s actually more to clothes matching than simply having almost identical or well coordinated type, style, and color of clothes.

Mother daughter matching clothes and ensembles is a perfect picture of understanding and love between the two. Most adolescent girls often get into arguments and fights with their mother because of even just a very trifle reason like when a mother comments on or frets over what her daughter wears or how she styles her hair.

Deborah Tannen, an author of a book about mothers and daughters says that clothes are among the “conversational tar pits” ensnaring the two. The others are hair and weight. In this light, we can say that having the same liking and taste with regard to their outfit and even accessories indicates a special bond between mothers and daughters.

As the child ages, she gets exposed to a lot of factors that influence her way of seeing or interpreting things including what her mother says. This would probably explain why you would find more mothers and their little daughters matching clothes than mothers and their older daughters doing it. Older daughters would find mother daughter matching clothes childish and even unfashionable.

The bonding between mothers and daughters is actually strengthened through the years and the process starts from the moment the child is conceived in the mother’s womb. It continues to grow even stronger as she is born and as she grows up into a toddler, a young lady and a woman. While it is normal for daughters to react towards their mother’s comments negatively as they grow older, as a mother, you can do some things to prevent the strands of your relationship with your precious little daughter from getting tangled as time passes by.

If you have been to busy with work lately and had not spent enough time bonding with your daughter, don’t worry, you can start strengthening that bond again even with simple acts like matching clothes. Surely, your little daughter will appreciate it a lot. Why not start shopping around for mother-daughter matching clothes now?

For busy moms like you, there’s no better way to shop than shopping online. There are many online stores that specialize in mother-daughter matching clothes. Most stores have great assortment of readily designed mother-daughter matching clothes while there are also some that specialize in custom-made mother-daughter matching clothes. If you want them perfectly fit to your measurements, you can check out these online stores.

Your choices online are just as many as your choices in a department store but then again you have all the convenience of selecting among great variety of mother-daughter matching clothes in just a few minutes and without any hassle, comparing prices in an instant and literally shopping in just a few clicks on your mouse. These plus all the discounts you get from the online store make your online shopping a worthwhile experience.
